From that very first roast in 2005 to today, our love and excitement for the coffee industry hasn’t wavered, only increased (if that’s possible?)
As a boutique, speciality roaster we source the highest quality beans to handcraft and roast our blends and single origins to our specific recipe ensuring the consistent taste and quality for which we’re known and loved.
From the beginning we have always committed to sourcing beans that are Organic, Fair Trade, or Rainforest Alliance. For us the question of sustainability is a case of ‘why wouldn’t you’? Our takeaway cups and lids are also fully compostable and biodegradable. It’s our bit in the ongoing support and protection of the environment and people that are at the forefront of the industry we all love so much.

Bun Story of Origin. What’s in a Name?
We often get asked about the story behind our name Bun. The name Bun originated in a French patisserie is the Sydney suburb of Glebe back in the late 1980’s. David opened the patisserie in 1988 under the name of Le Chocoreve (The Chocolate Dream) with his brother. With a team of European pastry chef’s the quality of the product was second to none and a wholesale business grew rapidly. David’s more larrikin friends started to refer to the shop as the “sticky bun shop” and pretty soon David assumed the moniker of “sticky” or “bun” or sometimes both! So for David, founder and master roaster, his new coffee roasting business name was always going to be Bun!
Interestingly, in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee where arabica coffee grew wild in the forests of the Kaffa region, coffee is called “Buna” or “Bun”!

Founder and master roaster David was inspired by his love of coffee and an appreciation for the people who grow it, to start Bun Coffee. Since our first roast in 2005, our love and appreciation have continued to grow, allowing us to build Bun Coffee into what it is today.
From the start, we have been committed to creating coffee in a sustainable way that is good for the environment and supports and protects the people that grow it. We source beans that are Certified Organic, Australian Grown, Fair Trade or Rainforest Alliance to ensure that the beans can be traced from farm to cup and that the people and communities that rely on growing and selling coffee beans receive a fair wage and have good working conditions.
We source high-quality coffee beans online that we handcraft and roast using specific recipes to get a consistent taste and quality in our blends and single origins. This makes us a boutique, speciality roaster on the Gold Coast, creating quality coffee that people know and love.
