Barista Progear - WDT Distribution Tool

A WDT tool breaks up the clumps that form as coffee leaves the grinder. Stirring fine needles through the grounds in the basket evens out the density before you tamp, so water can't find a low-resistance path through the puck. The result is less channelling and more repeatable shots. This one from Barista Progear comes with its own stand, so it sits upright on the bench instead of rolling into the drip tray.

Dose into the portafilter, then insert the needles and stir in a slow spiral from the outside in, working right down to the base of the basket. Five to ten seconds is plenty. Level the surface, then tamp as normal. If you're using a dosing ring, fit it first so nothing spills over the rim.
