How to Make Café Quality Coffee at Home

Bold, rich and full of crema. In this quick step-by-step guide, we show you exactly how to make a café-quality long black at home using your Breville machine — or any domestic espresso machine.

  1. Pour your fresh Bun Coffee beans into the hopper
  2. Set your grind amount to dose 16g of coffee
  3. Grind into the portafilter
  4. Use scales to check the amount of coffee in the portafilter
  5. Tamp the coffee firm and level
  6. Lock the portafilter into the machine
  7. Fill your cup three-quarters with boiling water
  8. Start your extraction
  9. Aim for the coffee to extract in 25–30 seconds — the coffee will extract directly on top of the water, preserving the crema
  10. Enjoy your café-quality long black!
