How to Make Café Quality Coffee at Home

Silky, smooth and full of flavour. In this quick step-by-step guide, we show you exactly how to make a café-quality latte at home using your Breville machine — or any domestic espresso machine.

  1. Pour your fresh Bun Coffee beans into the hopper
  2. Set your grind amount to dose 16g of coffee
  3. Grind into the portafilter
  4. Use scales to check the amount of coffee in the portafilter
  5. Tamp the coffee firm and level
  6. Lock the portafilter into the machine
  7. Start your extraction
  8. Aim for the coffee to extract in 25–30 seconds
  9. Fill your milk jug just below the spout
  10. Purge the steam wand briefly
  11. Lower the tip just below the surface of the milk
  12. Create a gentle whirlpool with the milk
  13. Submerge the steam wand to texture the milk
  14. Heat the milk to 55–60°C
  15. Swirl the milk briefly to smooth
  16. Start pouring low and steady — you're aiming for more milk, minimal foam
  17. Enjoy your café-quality latte!
