The coffee exhibits a rich, smooth sweetness and distinctly earthy flavour unique to coffees that are Australian-grown.
This is an all-Australian-grown product with every stage of production from seedlings to trees to harvesting, processing, roasting, packaging, and finally, retailing in Australia.
Coffee has been grown in Australia for nearly 200 years, but in the 1880s, it began to flourish, winning medals in Europe. However, the industry was competing with “coffee slaves” overseas, and the high labour costs saw the industry decline until the late 1980s, when progress in mechanical harvesting techniques led to a resurgence in plantings. The world’s first mechanical harvester was designed and built on a plantation in North Queensland. It revolutionised harvesting and the cost of harvesting, making the industry more competitive.
The country has two main growing areas, both on the east coast. The sub-tropical area stretches from Coffs Harbour in the south up to Noosa in the north, with many plantations in the Byron Bay hinterland area. Then there is the tropical growing area in North Queensland mostly on the Atherton Tablelands. Despite not having the altitude of the more equatorial growing regions, the latitude produces similar conditions, and the rich soils and pristine environment, which is free from pests and disease, allow coffee to be grown free from pesticides.
Australian-grown coffee comes from two major regions in Australia. The Atherton tablelands in Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Here, you will find the origins of our Australian Estate Coffee.
These regions are excellent for growing coffee because of the rich soils and perfect climate they enjoy.
Australians are discerning about their coffee. Coffee is not just a hot beverage people enjoy; it’s a way of socialising and getting to know one another. That’s why we take our jobs seriously- so you can rest assured when you buy coffee online with Bun Coffee.
We have 600,000 coffee trees that are grown on 200 hectares of land.
What makes Australian-grown coffee beans exciting is that they are free of chemicals and pesticides. When you buy coffee beans online in Australia, you don’t just end up buying coffee, you buy into a whole idea on the way it should be grown and served.
Besides avoiding the use of harmful chemicals and fertilisers, Australia is one of the few countries in the world to grow coffee trees that are free of leaf rust successfully. This disease destroyed the coffee plantations of Sri Lanka and Java in the 1800s.
Our customers ask us this all the time. And it’s no secret ingredient! At Bun Coffee, we pride ourselves on delivering the freshest ground coffee in Australia. And the difference is remarkable.
Coffee loses its intense, aromatic flavours over time. Nothing compares to the sensory experience of fresh ground coffee beans. And as coffee lovers, Bun Coffee prioritises the impact of flavour and freshness on the overall quality of our products.
All of our mouth-watering single origin coffee beans are roasted within 24 hours after placing your order. Roasted-to-order ground coffee in Australia is far superior to other coffees that may have been roasted months before you receive them.
This process allows us to maintain a consistent quality – so you know that when you reorder your favourite ground coffee beans, they’ll taste exactly how you expect.
Our sustainable coffee is 100% Australian-grown, australian estate coffee, organic and as close to perfection as a cup of coffee can get. It has a far lower environmental impact than those beans shipped thousands of miles and supports our local economy too. Coffee made right here in Australia, and roasted to order is the true secret behind our deliciously moreish coffee.
In addition to our international single origin coffee, we also sell a ranger of Australian grown and roasted coffee. What makes our coffees special is that they are specially curated by Bun Coffee’s founder, David Kennedy.
A master roaster, he has been roasting and selling coffee to cafes across Australia for over 28 years.
