Pure Bliss in a Cup: The Art of Crafting Organic Drinking Chocolate

100% Natural ingredients that are 100% Certified Organic

We are a Specialty Coffee Roaster, so why bother with producing a drinking chocolate??

Back in the early Bun Coffee days, we were looking for a good hot chocolate to complement our growing range of coffees, as most of our customers used regular hot chocolate powders that were filled with bulking fillers. We were in search of something that would result in an amazing drinking chocolate experience, a premium-quality iced chocolate, or a decadent mocha.

It needed to be a pure product without adding fillers such as dextrose, fructose, milk solids, starches or artificial flavours. So, true to our philosophy of keeping things simple, sustainable, organic, and of the highest quality, we worked hard to source a certified organic fair-trade cocoa and organic panela* from South America. Our supplier has a strict sustainability policy and believes in business and farming practices that prioritise people and the environment and that from the farmers who grow the crops to those who use their products, everyone their business touches should be the better for it.

It was then recipe time where we worked at finding the right balance between the cocoa bitterness and panela sweetness. This took time and taste testing many many cups of hot chocolates to get it just right! The result was what has become our amazing, Rich Organic Drinking Chocolate, perfect for all the drinks we mentioned and, as our own kids showed us, for sprinkling onto ice cream and homemade Sunday morning pancakes too!

*Panela is cane juice that does not undergo a centrifugal process like sugar. It is slowly dehydrated, so the molasses and nutrients remain in the panela, giving it a distinct caramel flavour.
