Origin Story
The coffee is a Grade 1, fully washed lot from Rantekarua Estate, Bittuang, in the Tana Toraja region of southern Sulawesi. Initially established by a Dutch company named Van Dijk, the estate underwent nationalization after Indonesia gained independence in 1945.
Over the subsequent decades, it became overgrown with forest until Kapal Api acquired the land in 1987 and undertook its rehabilitation. The estate encompasses a total area of 1200 hectares, with 700 hectares dedicated to the cultivation of some of the highest-quality coffees in Sulawesi, Indonesia. On-site, there is a fully equipped wet mill utilizing Pinhalense equipment, and coffee beans are dried on raised beds under ample covering.
The standard processing procedures involve flotation, pulping, 24-hour fermentation, washing, soaking, and a drying period lasting between 14 to 21 days. In addition to the coffee grown on the estate, cherry and wet parchment are sourced from external growers.
