Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is your privacy policy?

A. We will only use your details for our own use (e.g. order status, special offers) and under no circumstances will be supplied to any other insititution or person for any purpose. At any stage you can request us to remove your details from our database and we will do so.

Q. What is the best way to store my coffee?

A. The best way to maintain the freshness of your coffee is to purchase small amounts often. This way you will always know that your beans are roaster fresh. If you do need to prolong the life of your coffee it is best to keep it in an airtight container in the freezer. The container needs to be airtight to prevent the coffee absorbing other flavours.

Q. How do I know which grind I need?

A. Getting the correct grind is essential as the wrong grind will severely affect the taste of your coffee. Generally the longer the hot water is in contact with the coffee the courser the grind should be. So a plunger needs a courser grind than an espresso machine. There are plenty of options available in the shopping cart area to choose your grind but if you are unsure then let us know exactly how you make the coffee and we will grind your beans to suit.

Q. What if I am not satisfied with my coffee?

A. In the unlikely event that you are not happy with your purchase for any reason whatsoever you can send the product back to us for a full refund - no questions asked.

Q. How is your coffee packaged?

A. Although all deliveries are roasted to order to ensure maximum freshness we still pack all coffee into a sealed foil bag with a one way valve. These bags are specially designed for coffee and are resistant to moisture and oxygen. The one way valve means the natural CO2 that fresh coffee gives off can escape (preventing the bag from exploding) whilst no oxygen can enter the bag and begin the oxidisation process which turns coffee stale. In short your coffee will be in optimum condition when it arrives. Another feature of the bag is that it is re-closable for storage.

Q. How is the coffee delivered?

A. All our retail coffee is delivered by Australia Post to your chosen delivery address. Please contact us for alternatives.

Q. What's the big deal about Rainforest Alliance?

A. Traditionally coffee was widely gown under the leafy canopy of native rainforest trees. In the 1970's, agronomists began massive plantings where the forest was cleared and coffee packed into dense rows and doused with agrochemicals. These monoculture farms produced more beans but at a tremendous environmental cost. Rainforest Alliance coffee is grown under the canopy of the native rainforest on farms that meet demanding social and environmental standards as verified by experienced inspectors from The Sustainable Agricultural Network (SAN). The standards ensure that forests are protected, rivers, soils and wildlife conserved, workers treated with respect, paid fairly, properly equipped and given access to education and medical care. An another important benefit is that coffees grown within such biodiversity are of superb quality in the cup.

Q. Isn't Rainforest Alliance Coffee organic too?

A. Not necessarily. Within the Sustainable Agricultural Network's standards pesticide and agrochemical use is allowed under a strict 'integrated crop management' system.
